The 95th annual Academy Awards nominations were revealed on Tuesday morning, and it appears that a genre-defying comedy-drama set in the multiverse will be the big winner at the ceremony in March.
In the categories of best picture, best director, best actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, and best original screenplay, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” dominated the nominations. It led the pack with 11 total nominations.
The films “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” all received nine nominations each. The biggest blockbusters from 2022, “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water,” were nominated for best picture as well.
The 10 Best Picture nominees for this year had a combined domestic box office revenue of $1.574 billion at the time of nominations, making them the highest-grossing group. At the time of their nomination, the 2009 nominee slate held the record with $1.52 billion.
Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars ceremony on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and it will be broadcast live on ABC. After Chris Rock was struck by Will Smith during last year’s ceremony, this year’s ceremony is certain to receive more attention.
