The Milwaukee Bucks made a surprising move at head coach by reportedly hiring Adrian Griffin over the likes of Nick Nurse, Kenny Atkinson and others. Milwaukee initially claimed Carter in 2022 when the Brooklyn Nets waived him to make room for Goran Dragic. Carter played well in 20 games for the Bucks that season, quickly establishing himself as a reliable backup point guard. It also helped that George Hill, the only other capable point guard on the roster not named Jrue Holiday, was battling and injury and largely unavailable.

Unfortunately for Carter, he was benched in the postseason when Hill returned. Despite the latter underperforming, Carter’s butt stayed glued to the bench in their second-round loss to the Boston Celtics. Milwaukee showed enough faith to re-sign him to a one year contract with a second year player option last summer.

If he chooses to accept, the player option will pay him $2.24 million next season. A decision he must make by June 29th. Carter upped his game during his first full season with the Bucks. He played in 81 contests, starting 39 of them and putting up career-highs in several categories. Overall, he averaged 8 points, 2.4 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while draining 42.1 percent of his three-point attempts.

Of course, none of that diminished the aggravating on-ball defense he plays. He bothered ball-handers every time they had the rock in their hands and ensured his intensity never let up. At the very least, he’s earned himself a raise from the $2.24 million player option.
